Create more than you consume

I’m now writing over at my brand new site. Check it out and follow along.

How a subscription works

What is a subscription?

Everything for sale on our website is purchased as a subscription as from 28th October 2016. Read the blog post over at Epic Plugins here.

A subscription entitles you to one year of:

  • Specialized support from our support team.
  • Ongoing updates that include new features, improvements and bug fixes
  • Updates to ensure compatibility with new WordPress releases
  • Updates to ensure compatibility with Social Network API releases

Subscriptions are billed annually, and you can cancel at any time but will cease to receive updates and support.

The subscription will be set to automatically renew to save you time having to go and re-purchase a new license key to keep receiving the great updates we produce.

How do subscription renewals work?

Subscriptions are renewed automatically. We decided to implement auto-renewals because having to go through the process of renewing to re-activate your theme and run through the whole checkout process was a pain. Through auto-renewal you get a slick process where you don’t have to worry about getting a new license key.

Do I need a subscription to use my product?

If your subscription lapses, you will still be able to use your product on your site (this is what we mean by a lifetime license key). However, you will not be able to re-download the product, receive updates or get support. Think of the renewal fee as a way of keeping the product in active development and helping to feed our family.

What happens when a subscription expires?

If a subscription expires, you will lose access to the downloadable product, its updates and support. Bummer.

How do I activate my subscription?

Your subscription is active as soon as you checkout on our site. As long as you have an active subscription you’ll be able to download any future updates and receive support.

What’s the difference between a product license and a subscription?

The main difference is a license is your right to use the product on your site, while subscriptions will be automatically renewed until you chose to cancel and cover subscribing to product updates and support.

We still keep the term ‘license’ as our products will continue to be licensed to you to use even if you do not renew your subscription. Your website won’t suddenly close down or cease to function.

We made this change to better reflect what we want to provide our customers. Rather than a one-time purchase, we’re working to create an ongoing relationship with our customers, and felt that the term “subscription” better captured our intentions.

What happens to the licenses that were purchased before the switch to subscriptions?

Due to the fundamental switch to subscriptions you’ll need to create a new subscription to continue to receive updates. If you’ve purchased from us previously (before subscriptions were introduced) you should have received an email from us with a discount code for renewing your subscription early.

If you missed that email, drop a note through to our support team with your order number and we’ll work through the new process with you.

Will I be notified when it’s time to renew, or when my card is about to be charged?

You’ll receive emails that your card is about to be charged a week before the renewal. You will also receive a receipt once your card has been successfully charged. If you do not wish to continue receiving support and updates after the renewal date you must cancel your subscription before the renewal date.

We do not refund subscription renewals.
